From Kanwar:

Hello Everyone,

The elections were over at 5:00 PM. Here are the results:

As a student registered on the Monroe Park Campus, do you vote in favor of approving the proposed Constitution and Bylaws of the Monroe Park Campus Student Body as approved by the Monroe Park Campus Student Government Association on January 26, 2009?

Yes:79
No : 81

I regret to inform you that the new constitution has been rejected. The results will become official once they are approved by judicial branch.

The elections were very close. I request you to help the elections committee for March elections once the injunction is lifted by the Judicial Branch.

Thank you

Kanwar Anand

Constitutional Reform Grievance - New vote on Constitution with Spring SGA Elections

Post  driverx77 on Fri Mar 13, 2009 2:54 pm

Per Kadie Chandler, Chief Justice:

Dear SGA Members,

The Judicial Board made a unanimous decision today regarding the recent grievance filed against the results of the Constitutional Reform Election. The items in question were whether there was an issue in voting the first morning (Tuesday February 24th) and if it affected students chances to vote. The Board did in fact determine that there were issues with the website where voting occurred. This was confirmed thru several means including interviews with and statements by several SGA members who were unable to vote themselves.

The number of votes was an irrelevant point considering that the issue was not how many people were given the opportunity to vote, but the fact that even one single student could have been knocked out of the chance to voice their opinion.

It is therefore the decision of the Board that the election shall be reheld and the Boards recommendation that the Constitutional Reform be placed on the ballot for SGA elections occurring March 24-26.

While the Board realizes that this may not please some of you, this is not about which way the vote goes or does not go. It is an assurance that each and every VCU student has the chance to speak their mind. We as SGA members are here for the students opinions, not or own, and we have an obligation to ensure that each one of them has an equal opportunity to be heard.

The Board would like to thank everyone who took the time to cooperate with our investigation and we hope you all have a safe and happy Spring Break.

Sincerely,

Kadie Chandler
