No Swipes Left Behind - Established Leader's Society program to deal with unused meal plan swipes (Use them or Lose them - Please Read!)
Hey everyone,
My name is Daniel with the Established Leader's Society. We are currently running a program called No Swipes Left Behind. For those of you with unused meal plan swipes, you can do a lot of good by using those left-over swipes to help feed the poor in Richmond instead of letting those unused swipes go to waste. Here are some further details:
Every semester many students buy VCU meal plans. The average student purchases a meal plan with anywhere between 200-300 blocks more commonly
referred to as "swipes". Unfortunately, at the end of a semester, many students don't actually end up using all of their swipes. Those swipes do not rollover,
so they basically disappear. As students, we know how frustrating it is to learn that money you've spent is lost and has been wasted. No Swipe
Left Behind is our solution. Instead of wasting swipes and money, we propose that you help people with your unused excess. Sadly, there is great poverty
in the Richmond area. In fact, according to FRAC (Food Research and Action Center) over 8.8 % of Richmond's population are in extreme poverty and are
in need of dire help. As a VCU student, surely you have seen a few homeless people during your college career while traveling through campus. To help aid this major
issue we offer a one week food drive (April 20- April 24). Please, join us in knocking out 2 birds with one stone. Use your soon to be unused swipes and
feed the homeless.
If you can help or know someone who can, please contact either myself at carawandr@vcu.edu or
Kwaku Osei at kwakuosei@gmail.com. Thanks a lot you guys. Hope the semester is going well!
Sincerely,
Daniel Carawan
