Affordable Housing Awareness Week
VCU Opportunity to Join the Community and Make a Difference
April 19-25
The Council for Community Engagement encourages the VCU community to participate in Richmond’s Affordable Housing Awareness Week. The week offers housing-related volunteer projects with various local nonprofit agencies. All VCU employees, students and alumni are invited to participate as an individual or to assemble a team to register for a project. Projects vary in length from 5 hours to a full day. With our collective effort, VCU can join with others to enhance our community.
Description:
Affordable Housing Awareness Week (April 19-25) is a combined effort by 14 nonprofit housing organizations to mobilize community volunteers to address the need for affordable housing in the Richmond region. Volunteers will have the opportunity to engage in a service project for a day. The goal is to engage 750 volunteers during the week. Volunteers do not need any special skills or training. Lunch will be provided. Participating organizations include:
Richmond Metropolitan Habitat for Humanity
Better Housing Coalition
ElderHomes
Boaz & Ruth
Rebuilding Together of Richmond
Virginia Supportive Housing
Southside Community Development Housing Corporation
Community Housing Partners
How to register:
In order to participate, you must register and you must be willing to commit the entire time required for the particular project. Projects vary in length and time of day.
To register for the event of your choice and to have VCU designated as your place of representation, please follow these directions:
•Go to the Hands on Greater Richmond Volunteer SignUp page: http://www.affordablehousingrichmond.com
•Select: Volunteer – review the available projects and choose a project.
•On the registration page, select your place of employment as VCU then identify yourself as – Employee, Student, or Alumni.
•If you have a group of 5 or more who want to work on the same project, contact Vanessa Diamond directly at vdiamond@handsongr.org
